'My country 'tis of thee . . .'

"Patriotism is not short,
frenzied outbursts of emotion,

but the tranquil and steady
dedication of a lifetime."

I never liked Stevenson but I really like his definition of patriotism!

Beautiful photo.

'Dissent is the highest form of patriotism' - Thomas Jefferson.

I've always liked that one.

...let freedom ring! I first heard Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" at a community festival as they honored four local veterans. I think it's because of their patriotism I still get goosebumps when I hear that song.I'm grateful to all veterans for defending our freedom and am looking forward to our neighbor's homecoming in a few weeks. Justine is serving her second tour in Iraq while her mother, since December, has been doing battle with CIDP, a severe form of Guillain-Barre' Syndrome. Safe travels and Happy Independence Day! Waterworks today and fireworks tomorrow.

P.S. Guessing Mourning Cloak Butterfly. Beautiful MN Bouquet shots. Is that the view out your window or from out and about on stripe safari?
