A grand pledge

I never had to memorize the Declaration of Independence, so opening the video posted by Rudee, author of A Knitting Nurse , yesterday was a special treat.

I've been thinking about the words all day. And these, in particular, stuck with me:

" . . . we mutually pledge to each other
our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor."

What a grand pledge the signers made to each other.

May we be so generous 233 years later.

Another lovely walk in the garden through your eyes. Especially love the fern and the rain drops. All kinds of treats in the blogsphere this holiday. Those actors really did the pledge justice and how fun to set off the "fancy fireworks." Cheers to generosity.

Oh, to be so committed to each other. Perhaps we can all feel this way someday.

And what an angel face in this photo. Soooo beautiful.

It is a grand piece of writing, isn't it? I think it is so much better to hear it spoken as in the video. Thanks for the link.

Met a delightful young woman from Cambodia (she's lived in the US now for 1 year and 5 weeks) while at the White Bear Ave. Parade, a kick-off to the Ramsey County Fair. One could see she loved seeing her first parade. And then one of her comments really hit home. "You have freedom here."
