The daring life

"A sheltered life
can be a
daring life
as well.
For all
serious
daring starts
 from within."

~ Eudora Welty

Boy, is that the truth! One just has to discover their inner daring.
So true. Some of the most challenging things I have done, have been shifts in attitude and philosophy - also in privately coming to terms with what is. All done alone, privately, invisible to other eyes.

Interesting concept. I'm not a very daring person. Always thought I needed to apologize for that, but the truth is that I don't have a lot of confidence to go out and blaze new trails. I was never imbued with that kind of mindset growing up and have always been timid about going too far out on a limb on the chance that I'd prove everyone right and fail. Sad, but true.

But you're saying there's still hope for me. Right?

Daring to take the first step is the hardest thing to do. I think this comes from much wisdom and experience for we are all not born that way.

Lovely quote and photo

True, something I'm really finding out at the moment that you can't do anything externally until you've sorted yourself out inside.

Absolutely true!

@Jane: Yes, and hush the inner critic!

@Bonnie: Perhaps the biggest daring IS coming to terms with what is--and with it comes the biggest rewards

@Alix: Me thinks you judge yourself too harshly! Your blog is daring and it does blaze new trails. Your exhuberance is unmatched, and you have nothing to prove. You are simply adorable and daring just as you are, my dear.
Kathleen said…
@Sandi: Well put! I love the notion of daring as dancing!

@Dianne: Isn't the lighting just amazing? And the cpmposition so perfect? Seem very quiet and Hopperesque to me.

@Finding Pam: Hmmm...sounds like you're describing my mother. Her beautiful spirit managed to overcome extreme shyness, poverty, homelessness, child and domestic abuse. She dared to take that first step you describe, and her resilience and vitality was like a magnet to people. Thank you for your comment.
Kathleen said…
@J: Well, people certainly try, but I don't think it can be sustained. I've found that I've been sorting myself out for a very long time. Comes in fits and starts, and the process itself is rewarding. I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on this. Have you posted on it?

@Mimi: I think a corollary is the Goethe quote about how the universe conspires to assist you at the moment you commit yourself!
Kathleen said…
@Steven: I think I understand your point intellectually, but it hasn't reached the heart level. I'd love to hear you expound upon this concept.

Hi Kathleen,

You're so sweet about my avatar! Doing a blog is daring; putting one's thoughts 'out there' and seeing what comes back.
Kathleen said…
@Lydia: Delighted to hear you liked it!

@Derrick: Well put, my friend. Just know that I will always come back to visit your blog. Can't imagine a week without it!

Great image and thought. Made me think of the Bronte sisters, who lived sheltered lives, and yet wrote books that were daring for their time.
Makes me think of my mom and grandmother, too. Women of their generation lived behind the scenes and yet often were daring in their own individual ways.
And for me, true daring lies in the few original thoughts I might think, write, or pass on.
Kathleen,

Hi. So nice of you to visit my blog. Your comment made me laugh, too funny!

Wonderful! Yes! In fact, I have found that most of my outward adventures had to do with running away from things, but most of my inward adventures have to do with running towards what I want and need.

All good.

Thank you, Kathleen!
