That is a fantastic photo! Although the nerd in me went right for thinking of all of the amazing things that firefly luciferase (the light producing enzyme) has allowed us to do in science!
Great photo and deserving potw. Love fireflies, always have. They always bring me back to some good places in my life. I never had the desire to catch them in jars, though. They always seemed just right the way they were.
Of course, now when I see fireflies, I also hear in the back of my mind a little Emily "The Firefly" Remler. Perhaps her version of Joy Spring?
Oh, beautiful... I love fire flies... I just posted about fire flies, kind of. I remember them from when I was living in the US. :) Absolutely loved your photo! Hugs/ Jo.
Oh how pretty! We don't get fireflies in Colorado, so I particularly appreciate stories and photographs of them.
Actually, in the last twenty years I've only seen fireflies once. We went to Ohio for my father-in-law's funeral, and to the wake afterward's at the family's house. It had been so long, more than ten years, since I'd seen fireflies that when they came out at sunset, I was thrilled to see them. Visibly so, clapping my hands together with delight kind of thrilled, and I turned to the person next to me, who was my brother-in-law and said, "Oh! Can you believe it? Fireflies!"
Then, of course, I realized I was talking to someone who had just lost his dad in a sudden accident, and apologized. My BIL Kevin told me not to worry, and that his dad certainly would mind. That he'd be glad the people he cared about were still enjoying fireflies.
It's kind of fitting for fireflies, isn't it? Just this unexpected, fleeting kind of thing that reminds you of joy.
Anyway, lovely picture :-) Congratulations on the post of the week mention!

Ginsberg's 4th month shot in your sidebar is adorable.
