I don't know if it's because they face it on a regular basis. I always heard that courage is being afraid and doing what has to be done anyway.
But I do feel that the economic turndown the last year or so has affected me less than others who have never faced uncertainty before because uncertainty has been a part of my life from the moment I decided to ba an artist and live off my work.
Maybe this is related...but what about the idea of harnessing fear for positive results? If you know your body and mind you can use the adrenaline to propel you forward instead of for running away (which may have been what nature intended!). I've never done anything courageous but I try to do my best to harness my adrenaline to give energetic talks...because my first instinct about public speaking is to run away!
I think that Derrick's point is interesting. My Dad always said, "Never let them see you sweat." So I'd say that sounds like him.
a number of people whose lives i have passed through haven't seen themselves as brave and yet that's how i describe them in my stories. brave is a very big place to inhabit in an often very small situation. steven
Some people seem to feel pain less than others, some worry less than others, and some seem to feel less fear. Is it because they've become used to pain, worry, fear? Or is it because they manage to hide these concerns and focus on other things? I don't know the answer.
Ellen definitely speaks for me. I've been on the edge of financial disaster so long, I don't even worry about it anymore. Perhaps that's stupid.
Fear blocks the ability to sense love, it blocks intuition. It is not worth cultivating, though it occurs of course, no matter how brave a person might be.
Actually fear seems in a way, disconnected from courage.
Great, provocative post! Thanks for making me think.
